Dr. Kwok-fai So, who is Chair Professor of Department of Anatomy and Jessie Ho Professor in Neuroscience at The Univeristy of Hong Kong, has received the Everfront Award at the 8th Asia Pacific Symposium on Neural Regeneration in conjunction with the 5th Pan Pacific Symposium on Stem Cells and Cancer Research in Taiwan in April 2012.

The Everfront Award honors excellent research contributions in stem cell as well as cancer research, including pre-clinical, clinical plus translational work, and this work has been presented to a researcher at the forefront of his or her field.

Dr. Kwok-fai So, is Chair Professor of Department of Anatomy and Jessie Ho Professor in Neuroscience at The Univeristy of Hong Kong, Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Member of the Consultative Committee of the National 973 Program, Co-Chairman of the Board of Director of the China Spinal Cord Injury Network, Co-Director of the State Key Laboratory of Brain and Cognitive Sciences at HKU and Editor-in-Chief of Neural Regeneration Research. He received his Ph.D. degree from MIT. He is one of the pioneers in the field of axonal regeneration in visual systsem. He was the first to show lengthy regeneration of ratinal ganglion cells in adult mammals with peripheral nerve graft. He is currently using multiple approaches to promote axonal regeneration in the optic nerve and spinal cord. His team identifies neuroprotective and regenerative factors icluding: peptide nanofiber scaffold, trophic factors, herbal extracts, other small molecules, immune responses and environmental manipulation. He is the author and co-author of over 390+ publications.
